Access to capital has always been a challenge to women business owners, but despite the obstacles that they have faced, female entreprenuers have managed to grow their businesses exponentially.  According to a recent report provided by SCORE, women owned businesses are just as successful as male owned businesses, against all odds.

When it comes to starting a business, women are more likely to take the plunge than their male counterparts.  Even though they know it might be even more difficult for them, they are willing to take the risk to follow their dreams and make a difference.

A really fascinating and relevant statistic uncovered by the SCORE report states that 62% of women business owners rely on their business revenues as their primary source of income. This directly contradicts the long held assumption that women only start hobby businesses and rarely rise beyond the level of a "side hustle."

And how do all these women do it?  Well, the SCORE survey confirmed what many women business owners have known for years.  That is, an entrepreneur with a mentor is much more likely to succeed than one without.  This holds true for both men and women, and both genders agreed that it didn't matter whether their particular mentor was male or female.  What was critical was having a mentor in the first place.

At NAWBO, mentorship is at the core of our vision and mission.  The way we propel women business owners forward is by offering support at every stage of entrepreneurship. This includes mentors ready and willing to take new business owners under their wing and teach them to fly.

The SCORE report is inspiring.  There is no doubt that the trends identified by these small business statistics will continue, making it a great time to be a female entrepreneur!
