Monthly Article

October is a very important month at NAWBO.  During this month, every Chapter focuses on learning and discussing the public policy issues that affect women business owners.  On the eve of November elections, understanding where candidates stand becomes critical.  NAWBO's Public Policy Agenda is adjusted each year to reflect the issues that most impact members.  NAWBO strives to also increase the organization's visibility and credibility at the local, state, and national levels.  Even though NAWBO is a bipartisan organization by design, candidates from both political parties with a record of support of women business owners are endorsed.

For 2018, NAWBO's Public Policy Agenda is focused on: Access to Capital, Education and Workforce, Government Contracting and Disparity Studies, International Trade, Regulatory Reform, Taxes, Technology, The SUCCESS Act, and Micro Businesses. Any NAWBO member can get involved in any of the five councils formed by NAWBO National to support this agenda and explore these issues.  Also, all members are invited to attend National Advocacy Day in Washington DC every year in June.  The key to NAWBO advocacy and public policy is that all member input is valued and political expertise and ambition are not required.

NAWBO has made a real difference in public policy since its inception in 1975, and that passion for advocacy continues to this day.  There is still much to do and Helen Keller's quote comes to mind, especially in these divided times: "Alone we can do so little.  Together we can do so much."
